The Mental Health at Work report, in conjunction with Mercer, is now in its third year. Following the latest annual survey into employee mental health, conducted by YouGov, this year’s report highlights the effect of financial insecurity, which is contributing to poor mental health for UK workers. A quarter of employees are struggling to make ends meat, two thirds say that their mental health and wellbeing is affected by their job security, and 90% of young people say their mental health is affected by the cost of living.
The report asks employers to take action to support financial wellbeing, and emphasises the three key calls to action:
It includes a particular focus on a number of key areas and sectors: long and enduring mental health conditions; gender; age; ethnicity; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and others (LGBT+); small and medium enterprises (SMEs); professional services; media and technology; and financial services.
The report is supported by the BITC Wellbeing Leadership Team: Anglian Water, Bupa, Costain, GSK, Heineken, Lloyds Banking Group, Mercer, National Grid, Nuffield Health, P&G, Public Health England, Royal Mail, Santander and Unilever.
