Supporting loved ones after a major incident

Organisation: Police Care UK

If someone close to you is a police officer, from time to time they might experience trauma at work. This short guide shares some principles that can be helpful.

If a friend or family member is in the police, it can be difficult to know how best to support them after they’ve been through a major or traumatic incident. After all, it’s hard for others to imagine how it feels to be a police officer on duty – or how it feels when they come home.

This short guide takes less than two minutes to read, but will give you some pointers for how to be supportive when somebody close to you is going through this.

It was produced by Police Care UK some time ago, when they were called Police Dependants’ Trust – but the information is just as useful for what police are going through now.
