The message behind the Mindful Employer 10-step toolkit is: Whether you work in human resources for a large organisation or are the manager of a small agency, creating a mentally healthy workplace isn’t as difficult as you might think. They have collated the best resources and actions into a series of steps that can be tailored to you to help you to create better mental health awareness and support for your workplace.
The steps fall into three categories: Engage (raise awareness), Educate (reduce stigma and build skills, knowledge and confidence) and Embed (implement a solid and sustainable approach. For every step there is a wide range of supporting resources to help you take action – and many of the suggested actions are simply good business practice backed up by an increased understanding of mental health in the workplace.
Leeds Mind offers a package of support to employers, including workshops, training, facilitated staff support groups, teambuilding events and strategic advice on embedding mental health practice into the workforce.
This guide has a list of options that small business owners and the self-employed can try, for improving the wellbeing of themselves and their employees, along with tips and links for where to look next.
