Manager support for return to work following long-term sickness absence
Organisations: CIPD Health and Safety Executive Healthy Working Lives
Following the introduction of 'fit notes' to encourage those on long-term sick leave to make an early return to work, this guide focuses on the key behaviours managers need to support employees.
Line managers have a responsibility to provide appropriate support to employees and remove some of the challenges they may face when returning to work. CIPD, the British Occupational Health Research Foundation, the Health and Safety Executive and Healthy Working Lives shows the results of research into the behaviours line managers can use to help this process.
As well as an explanation of the issues, it includes a competency framework, a list of quick key messages for line managers and a list of further resources.
