Tips for supporting somebody with an eating disorder

Organisation: Beat

Web page

Eating disorders (EDs) can affect anyone, of any gender and any age. It can be difficult to know how to support someone experiencing bulimia, anorexia, or another ED, but this guide from Beat can help you to know where to start – especially if a colleague or staff member has told you they are affected.

This web page offers general tips, such as which topics it might be best to avoid in conversation, and understanding how distressing the illness can be. It also includes advice on more specific situations such as coping with mealtimes, which might be useful if you are planning social events for your team.

You’ll also be able to find links to other sources of support here, such as support groups and advice tailored to carers, which you might like to share with your colleagues.
