Reasonable adjustments for mental health

Organisation: Acas

Web page

Reasonable adjustments are changes an employer makes to remove or reduce a disadvantage related to someone’s disability – including disabilities caused by mental health conditions.

Often, simple changes to a person’s working arrangements or responsibilities could be enough to help them stay in work and work well. There’s also benefits for your business, too – for example, you might find introducing reasonable adjustments reduces staff absences, improves your retention rates, and helps create a healthy working culture.

This guide from Acas covers what you need to know about reasonable adjustments, including your legal obligations, how to respond to requests for such adjustments, and creating policies that take the mental wellbeing of your employees into consideration.
