This is Me

Web page

This is Me is a business-led campaign to support organisations, and their employees, to talk about mental health. It encourages people with experience of a mental health problem, whether their own or of a loved one, to share their stories.

This is Me is a mental health initiative that aims to change attitudes towards mental health in the workplace and support organisations to create healthier and more inclusive workplace cultures. They do this by providing employers with the tools they need to:

  • raise awareness through The Green Ribbon CampaignThe Green Ribbon Campaign Web page The Green Ribbon Campaign encourages organisations to invite their employees to wear a green ribbon during Mental Health Awareness Week and on other significant dates, to help end the stigma around mental health.Paid for By: The Lord Mayor’s Appeal View resource;
  • build employees’ skills through Wellbeing in the WorkplaceWellbeing in the Workplace Web page Wellbeing in the Workplace is a free online wellbeing programme that gives employees the skills they need to manage their own emotional health, and to support those around them, well before those feelings reach crisis point.FreeSign up for free to access By: Samaritans View resource;
  • end stigma and open up the conversation through This is Me storytelling.

This is Me storytelling encourages people with experience of a mental health problem, whether their own or that of a loved one, to share their stories through videos, blogs or another medium that works for them.

Attitudes, knowledge and behaviours towards people with mental health problems are more likely to improve if people are given the opportunity to learn from someone who has personal experience of mental illness (according to Time to Change Time to Change Time to Change is a growing movement of people changing how we all think and act about mental health. That’s why the This is Me storytelling campaign asks employees to talk about their own mental health, and about themselves as a person—to dispel the myths and reduce the stigma around mental health and, crucially, to raise the awareness of the importance of wellbeing.

The Lord Mayor’s Appeal’s research has found that storytelling clearly accelerates organisations’ progress in this area—and 100% of organisations believe that This is Me has had a positive impact on changing attitudes and increasing conversations about mental health.

The This is Me website has more information about the campaign—including who’s involved, the success it’s had so far, and real-life stories and videos. You can register to receive your “This is Me How To Guide”, newsletters and invitations to regular events tailored to your region.
