The urgency of intersectionality

Organisation: TED

Our identities are made up of many different factors – our age, our race, our gender, our sexuality, and many other factors combined shape both how we experience the world and how it treats us. Considering how these factors interact with each other is called ‘intersectionality’, and it’s important to consider when discussing racism in the workplace.

In this TED Talk, lawyer and civil rights activist Kimberlé Crenshaw explains the impact of intersectionality when it comes to the overlapping issues faced by African American women.

The video is ideal for anyone learning about racism in the workplace who would like a deeper understanding of how race interacts with other areas of oppression.

The video features a transcript, both in English and in 17 other languages. It runs for 16:30.
