The role of NHS line managers in supporting better mental health

PDF

The Covid-19 pandemic has presented our NHS workforce with one of their greatest challenges to date. Whilst it’s unlikely that we’ll understand the full impact of Covid-19 on the mental health and wellbeing of NHS staff for some time yet, we do know is that compassionate leadership is needed now more than ever, and staff wellbeing needs to be a priority.

Mind and the British Medical Association have worked together to create this PDF guide aimed at line managers in the NHS, to help them to better understand their role in supporting their team’s mental wellbeing.

The guide sets out 6 areas for line managers to consider in supporting better mental health:

  • Promoting wellbeing,
  • Driving cultural change,
  • Spotting the signs in those you manage,
  • Talking about mental health,
  • Setting boundaries, and
  • Role modelling.

It’s ideal for anyone working in the NHS who has at least one direct report.
