Samaritans helpline
Organisation: Samaritans
The Samaritans helpline is available 24 hours a day, providing a one-to-one listening service for anyone experiencing distress.
When someone is experiencing a difficult period in their life, it can be hard to find someone to talk to. This problem can be worse if you do not have friends, family or colleagues you can speak to easily, or are spending periods away from home or the office.
The Samaritans helpline is available 24 hours a day, providing a one-to-one listening service for anyone experiencing distress. You do not need to be feeling suicidal to call.
Common reasons people contact Samaritans are:
- relationship and family problems
- loss, including loss of a friend or a family member through bereavement
- financial worries
- job-related stress
- college or study-related stress
- loneliness and isolation
- depression
- painful and/or disabling physical illness
- heavy use of or dependency on alcohol or other drugs
- thoughts of suicide
It may be a good idea to consider sharing this information in some of your internal communications, to ensure staff know it is available. Remember to include those who work offsite, who may be more isolated than office-based staff.
