Mental health conditions, work and the workplace

Web page

Common mental health problems and work-related stress can exist independently. People can have anxiety or depression without stress, and can experience work-related stress and its physical effects without anxiety or depression. However, they can be closely related: one can exacerbate the other, and many of the signs are similar.

So, to be able to support ourselves and our employees, it’s important to understand the relationship between mental health and work-related stress. This guide gives a full overview of the subject, including:

  • Definitions of common mental health problems
  • How common mental health problems and work-related stress go together
  • Advice for managers on mental health conditions
  • Managing employees who are struggling
  • Advice for employees with mental health conditions
  • Returning to work after an illness.
