Implementing an employee assistance programme (EAP) is one of the most common interventions to support and improve workplace mental health. But very few employers or providers are able to collect systematic data on how their EAP is used or the value it provides.
The Employee Assistance Providers Association commissioned and published research into the return on investment in EAPs, which you can read on their website. It culminated in this easy-to-use online calculator, which was independently developed by Professor Stephen Bevan of the Institute of Employment Studies. The tool asks you a few brief questions about your organisation, the EAP contract you have (or are considering) and its level of usage. Then, it calculates your level of return per pound spent. It also details the assumptions that went into the calculation and research behind the tool’s development.
