COVID-19: The impact of death, bereavement and grief

Web page

This toolkit from Business in the Community provides guidance on developing a compassionate and inclusive response to the impact of death, bereavement and grief.

Responding to death and bereavement is always difficult, but the COVID-19 pandemic presents additional challenges. People may not be able to visit loved ones who are dying, or might not be able to attend funerals to say goodbye. These complications can be made worse by our cultural reluctance to talk about death and grief.

You may be worried about a staff member who has lost a loved one, or concerned that your organisation is not equipped to help people experiencing this. This guide from Business in the Community explores why employers should consider the impact of bereavement, discusses some practical steps you can take towards supporting employees experiencing this, and helping to start conversations about death and the support staff need.

It explores the additional problems that grieving remotely can cause, advice about your responsibilities in the law, and looking out for longer-term problems that may result from bereavement.

The link below will take you to the toolkit web page on the Business in the Community site, where the PDF guide can be opened or downloaded.
