Blue Light Champions are employees or volunteers in emergency services who take action to challenge stigma and raise awareness of mental health. This pack shows you how to get started.

A workplace mental health champion is someone who takes action to raise awareness of mental health and challenge the stigma around talking about it. By doing that, they help to turn the working environment into a place where conversations can happen and colleagues feel supported.

Blue Light Champions are employees or volunteers who do this while working in the police, fire, ambulance or search and rescue services. They can be anyone, at any level, whether they have personal experience of mental health problems or not.

This pack from Mind is full of tips, guides, videos and resources to support you in being a blue light champion or rolling them out in your organisation. There are examples from real people, downloadable role description and application forms, presentations, factsheets, activity guides and much more. There’s also a lot of information and resources to help in setting up or supporting a peer support network.

It was produced as part of Mind’s Blue Light Programme, but is freely available for any service to use, even if you never worked with the Blue Light Programme in the past.
